James H. Wilson letters, 1909, 1913.

Two letters of Major General James Harrison Wilson to Colonel Eben Swift, General Staff Corps, U.S. Army. In his letter of May 4, 1909, Wilson compliments Swift on his article "The tactical use of cavalry," published in the Journal of the Military Service Institution of the United States, though he reserves some criticism for Swift's failure to mention the movements of Wilson's own cavalry division at the Battle of Winchester in 1864 and the valorous conduct of the cavalry during the pursuit of John Bell Hood's army after the Battle of Nashville in December of 1864. The second letter, written on December 28, 1913, comments on notices and reviews of Wilson's book Under the old flag (1912).
